7在外界環(huán)境適宜時(shí)，自生世代可繼續(xù)多次，此過程稱為間接發(fā)育。經(jīng)多次的循環(huán)發(fā)育后，雄蟲逐次減少，以致消失，雌蟲則進(jìn)行孤雌生殖，但不能持久，蟲體zui終趨于死亡。當(dāng)外界環(huán)境不利于蟲體發(fā)育時(shí)，桿狀蚴蛻皮兩次，發(fā)育為絲狀蚴。此期幼蟲對宿主具有感染性，可經(jīng)皮膚或粘膜侵入人體，開始寄生世代，此過程稱為直接發(fā)育。寄生世代絲狀蚴侵入人體后，隨血循環(huán)經(jīng)右心至肺，穿破毛細(xì)血管，進(jìn)入肺泡。然后，沿支氣管、氣管移行至咽，被吞咽至消化道，并鉆入小腸（尤以十二指腸、空腸為多）粘膜，蛻皮2次，發(fā)育為成蟲。雌蟲多埋于腸粘膜內(nèi)，并在此產(chǎn)卵。蟲卵發(fā)育較快，數(shù)小時(shí)后即可孵化出桿狀蚴，并自粘膜內(nèi)逸出，進(jìn)入腸腔，隨糞便排出體外。自絲狀蚴感染人體至桿狀蚴排出，至少需要17天。嚴(yán)重腹瀉的患者，也可自糞便中排出蟲卵。除腸道外，糞類圓線蟲還可寄生于肺或泌尿生殖系統(tǒng)，隨痰排出的多為絲狀蚴，隨尿排出的多為桿狀蚴。在人體內(nèi)有無寄生性雄蟲，學(xué)者尚有爭論。
